In a 2016 study by Advertising Specialty Institute, the average number of impressions each type of promotional product makes was calculated. This was done by multiplying how long a recipient has the product by how many people they come in contact with each month while using it.
According to the study, branded writing instruments such as promotional pens generate about 2,805 impressions per item. Since promo pens come in a wide variety of price points and styles, they can be purchased for as little as 29 cents per pen. Yielding nearly 3,000 impressions for less than a dollar makes the ROI very attractive. Perhaps this is why promotional pens are so popular.
Although it may be tempting to choose the lowball option when buying promo pens, remember that quality pens score more points with customers. If your target audience is executives, it would be inappropriate to associate your brand with a budget pen. In fact, an argument can be made that no matter what your customer demographics are, you should choose quality promotional pens. After all, they are a reflection of your brand.
